Does Knowzy Use AI?
It sure does! Every time you capture an audio passage in Knowzy, the transcription is generated by AI. This kind of task-related AI is referred to as Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI) and specifically uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to recognize patterns in speech to produce reliable representations of that speech in text format.

We also have a feature called Ask Knowzy that uses generative AI to reflect insights from the information you have input and gathered in your library. Ask Knowzy will pull in a few additional insights from the broader internet if you request by clicking the globe icon to the left of your prompt window. Either way, Ask Knowzy is focused on helping you to manage and analyze the information you have already decided is important to you. You’ll know you are using Ask Knowzy when you see the orange AI bulb:

Finally, we use AI to assist with the formatting of your citation into a particular style. Just look for the black AI Wand  when you click into the source citation field.

Do you use your own AI or a Third Party Service?
We’re a startup and frankly can’t afford to make our own AI. But just you wait! For now, we are using Whisper to support our transcription service. One of the reasons we chose it was for its performance with accurately recognizing speech patterns among diverse speakers. To learn more about the research about this, read here. For generative AI we use Chat GPT.

Does this mean that some machine is keeping track of the information I am asking it to transcribe?
OpenAI states that it uses data from transcription requests to improve its models, but this data is anonymized and is not tied to your user account. This means that while the AI processes your transcription, it does not store personally identifiable information or associate the data with you. Additionally, we do not retain transcripts beyond what is needed for delivering service.

Do I have to use the AI in Knowzy?
Mostly. If you don’t like the idea of a machine assist, you can kick it totally organic and simply copy/paste or type your information into your library. You’ll also want to avoid “Asking Knowzy. ”There are plenty of non-AI tools included that will allow you to organize and analyze your content. That said, our Search functionality does use AI but it won’t generate content for you and it’s searching on your content only (it won’t bring in anything that you haven’t already saved in your library).
